Chapter: Volume 3, Chapter 2
Species of pet featured: Labrador (Dog)

The story begins with Leon vowing that certain individuals are going to be placed under arrest. Luckily, Count D sees by now that the detective rarely lives up to his grudges, and Leon is once again proven to be all bark and no bite. The reason Leon's temper snapped are children this time, hurting a stray dog. A girl says she's entitled to do so, since it's her dog. Leon says that "he's supposed to protect the victims of the city, male or female, young or old, hairless or furry". However, Leon's called away, and the detective yells at D to give the kids a lecture instead of him. The Count takes a look at the dog, picks it up, and invites the dog's owner for tea and cake instead.

The girl tells Count D how she met with Daisy, the dog. She said she found the dog in a box, and she loved it dearly. However, the puppy grew up, and the girl seemed to lose interest and doesn't want the dog anymore.

The girl, who introduces herself as Margaret, explains how she comes from a family with three sisters, and she always stands in the shadows of her sisters. Count D seems to get an idea, and suggests Margaret to change Daisy for another pet, one that is to her liking.

After the initial shock of finding that the petshop carries 'people', Margaret chooses a girl at Count D's suggestion that she can have a sister that will obey her every whim.

Count D brings the chosen girl home. The girl looks emaciated, and is wearing rags. The family is shocked at finding a girl in their home, but Count D offers to pay $15,000 dollars a week to take care of her, as the girl needs a good home.

The family, now having more money than they'd ever had (with four children in a family...), is happy with the girl, whom Margaret decides to call Daisy. Margaret trains Daisy how to eat, how to bathe, and how to go to school.

Count D and Leon meet up, after some teasing on the Count's part, explains that Margaret chose the weakest pet of all. He explains that it is not pity that made Margaret choose the girl, but rather wishes to feel superior.

After some time, Daisy develops outstanding skills in basketball, swimming and other subjects, which Margaret does not like. Daisy is no longer frail and weak, but healthy and pretty, up to the point that her family is comparing her to a princess.

Margaret snaps, hitting Daisy and telling her to go back to the petshop. Her family does not approve of this behaviour, and locks Margaret in her room, where Daisy comforts her and promises her that she'll protect Margaret from now on.

Later on, Count D wishes to take back the child, but instead asks for "Maggie". Surprised, Margaret begs her family to take her, but the family seems wrapped up with Daisy instead. Count D explains that the family just wants to exchange something obnoxious for something cute, just like Margaret has done with Daisy 1.

Before D can put Margaret in room of abandoned children, Daisy stops Count D, holding onto Margaret and begging the Count to give her back to her. Daisy explains that after Margaret found her and took care of her, she just wanted to grow bigger and protect Margaret, because Margaret chose her a second time in the room of abandoned children.

Daisy then returns back to her original form of a dog. Count D says that he will never understand the loyalty that dogs have to humans.
