D e s s e r t
![]() Chapter: Volume 3, Chapter 3 Species of pet featured: Toutetsu The next morning when Leon visits the petshop, the Count still seems somewhat sleepy even if it is already teatime (1 PM). After discovering his lack of tea resources, the Count invites Leon to eat outside 'for a change'. The owner of the restaurant, familiar with Count D, gets them a table, and acquaintances Leon with the wonders of vegetarian food... without him realising.
The Count and Leon are introduced to their chef, Mr. Wong, who has prepared their exquisite meal. Count D compliments Mr. Wong for a delightful meal, and they somehow land in a conversation of food-preparations which leaves Leon crying, as they involve eating unborn infants. Mr. Wong presents the group with their dessert, the annin doufu, something that earns Mr. Wong grateful, adoring eyes from the Count, while hearts and sparkles are flying all around.
Meanwhile, Leon is still wrapped up in the disappearances case, and another missing person's report has been handed in, making the total disappearances 13. The latest missing person turns out to be Anessa Burtley, the girl who had left the party with Count D. Of course, our resident detective decides to follow his gut... ![]() However, he is met with competition. With both Mr. Wong and Leon dangling sweets in front of the Count, the Count ultimately decides to follow Mr. Wong, while Jill laughs at Leon being dumped. Jill and Leon follow the pair together, and watch their courting rituals with amusement (Jill) and disgust (Leon). Later, at night, D is threathened by youngsters for more incense, but he locks them up in one of the petshop's rooms, and immediately wild animals show up to feed off of them (o_o), as D smiles from the other side of the door. Meanwhile, the case Leon is working on is making progress. They have a body, which turned out to be eight months pregnant, but the fetus was missing when it was found. Leon recalls Mr. Wong saying something about dogs eating their unborn young...
Count D has invited Mr. Wong over for tea, and the chef kisses the Count, finding the flavour sweet. He remarks that a vegetarian's blood is very pure, and produces a meat knife, preparing to slice Count D up. Before the knife is lowered, Leon barges in, firing the gun at the knife so that it falls out of wong's hands. Concerned, Leon asks whether D is alright, but Count D says 'things were just getting interesting', which obviously does not sit well with Leon.
Count D explains that, from the first time he had met Mr. Wong, he'd seen the man was actually a Totetsu, a rare man-eating creature that roamed throughout ancient China. In order to obtain him, Count D would've gladly given up an arm or two. ![]() Leon and the rest of the team are happy that they've caught the person who turned out to be the cause for all the disappearances, or so they assume. The cannibal (or so they believe), is now in jail. D visits the Totetsu in jail, offering him a place in his petshop instead, where the food will be more than happy to come to him, and he won't have to hunt for it himself.
As their usual routine goes, Leon visits Count D to talk about the case (isn't that classified information? o_o). Leon informs D that Mr. Wong, who had been in a straightjacket at the time, chew out of it and dug out his own heart. Count D isn't particularly surprised, which astonishes Leon, but then remembers that Count D doesn't care about humans. Leon then notices the creature seated on Count D's lap, and asks what it is. The Count informs him that it's a close relative of a sheep, and that he just acquired him...
