Chapter: Volume 3, Chapter 1
Species of pet featured: Japanese Crested Ibis (Bird)

Diamonde opens with Count D and Leon conversing, as always, in the petshop. Leon has found a photograph of D's grandfather, and remarks that the resemblance is uncanny. It is the first time the reader is introduced to the existence of Count D's family members actively. Their conversation quickly shifts from their normal bickering to Leon's current case: guarding a girl who'se chosen to flee Garuna, a country divided in a political struggle. There's something special about this particular woman, though: she is pregnant with the deceased king's bastard child. However, the king's been dead for a year... while the girl is only 4 months pregnant.

Leon informs Count D that the girl has used the king's frozen sperm to inseminate herself, and the country is trying to track down the girl. Count D deems humans foolish once more, and the Count and detective further their bickering.

Later that night, Count D is visited by what he believes is a customer. As he witnesses the woman's true face though, Count D easily recognises her as the queen of Garuna, the deceased king's true wife. The queen remembers how she and the king met and were betrothed at a young age.

At first, the king and queen hated each other, always fighting with each other and sleeping with other people. One day, the queen fell ill, and when she woke up she found the king staring at her. Their lives turned around as they fell in love with each other, but it was not to be. Due to the queen's illness, she had become infertile. The king was pressured to produce an heir, but he would not take a mistress.

The queen's request is simple: she does not want the bastard child to take the throne, for the good of the kingdom. Count D doesn't know what he can do, but then the queen informs him that it was Count D's father, a doctor, who suggested to them that the king would freeze his sperm. Indirectly, Count D's father is the reason the bastard child exists.

The scene switches to the detective, who is currently having a crisis on his own. The hotel building is on fire after a bomb has exploded in it. The girl who Leon's team was guarding is in quite a bad shape. After Leon questions her, he finds that the person who attacked the girl was 'a black-haired man wearing perfume and black asian robes'. Leon is sure of his case now...

The scene switches again, returning to Count D sporting a sporty black outfit (o_o). Pressured by the queen to remove the king's sperm from the earth once and for all, he sneaks into the biology laboratory. After some difficulty, Count D, aided by Q-chan, manages to get ahold of the sperm sample.

With a few sparkles, the sperm vanishes into the ocean D throws it into. The queen thanks him, saying that now the love between her and her king can remain pure. She also says that D reminds her more of his grandfather than his father. Then, the king's spirit comes down to fetch his queen, and they are both revealed to be birds.

After this touching exchange, Leon shows up to grab D. Leon is victorious, now that he has finally gotten legal ground on which to arrest Count D. However, his victory is only short lived, as he receives a phone call saying that they've already caught the perpetrator who attacked the girl. It turned out to be a transvestite (XD).

Activities have died down, and Leon finds himself on D's couch once more. The Count serves him an egg, but refuses to tell Leon what species it's from...
