L e o n   O r c o t

Leon Orcot is the outspoken detective, who stalks Count D's shop around the clock. Leon comes accross as the all-American stereotype; big, blond, and rude. Leon also has soft sides, though they are few and far inbetween and mostly involve his little kid brother, Chris Orcot.

P e r s o n a l i t y

At the first glance, Leon Orcot seems like nothing more than a rude detective who is only interested in getting home on time, and doesn't care about the victims of crimes. He comes off as loud-mouthed and is often seen swearing or muttering under his breath.

However, not all is what it seems. Though Leon is vocal when something displeases him, Leon is passionate in his work, his emotions (he's like a vulcano o_o), and his convictions. He will protect innocent people hand and tooth, though he tries to be professional (and always fails). He's very enthusiastic in certain things, almost childishly so. This is shown whenever Leon's hunting after some women he's seen. They all deny him, though, which leaves him stunned and depressed... for about a second.

Though he would deny it, Leon gets attached to objects and people quite easily - almost as if he's waiting for someone to join his life. His life had been somewhat empty (only work and after-work parties) before Chris comes back into his life, and Count D is introduced into it. He is very protective of the people in his life - and even gets attached to plants, as seen in the chapter about the 'Gattalotto'.

Leon lived a happy childhood until he was around 16-17, when Chris was born. Because of complications in childbirth, his mother died, leaving him to fend all by himself. Leon cared deeply for his mother, shown in the chapter where Leon remembers part of his childhood, and goes back to tell his mother that she raised him well.

His aunt and uncle offered to take Chris in their house, and Leon accepted, as he was still young himself and was attending school. He was forced to grow up young, and joined the Los Angeles police afterwards.

Count D: The Count and Leon have an intricate and interesting relationship. Initially, neither of them have much interest in spending time together. Leon is forced to investigate Count D because of his suspicious pet shop, and D doesn't care about humans one way or the other. They often bicker with each other about the most ordinary things, as they rile each other up. Though Count D and Leon seem to dislike each other on the surface, they hardly complain (much) about the time they spend together. Count D often teases Leon good-naturedly, knowing Leon will freak out. Leon, on the other hand, increasingly comes by the pet shop, even if there is no investigation running. Leon also trusts D with Chris, his little brother, which is a big sign of trust and respect on Leon's behalf.

Chris Orcot: Though they are brothers, there's a large age gap between them. Leon and Chris are estranged when Chris is introduced into the series, as he lived with his aunt and uncle because their parents were dead. After Chris moves in with Count D, Leon becomes more and more protective of him, and slowly starts to grow into his brotherly personality. Leon feels responsible for Chris and how he wasn't there for him, and is very protective of him. Chris, on the other hand, really looks up to his older brother (so much so, that at the end of the series it is revealed that Chris will become a detective as well, just like his older brother).

Toutetsu: If Leon was asked which pet he disliked the most, it would be Tet-chan. Leon is always bitten and roared at by Tet-chan, and Leon isn't hesitant to return the favour, even if he sees the Toutetsu as an animal, not as his human image. Toutetsu is very protective of Count D and Chris, and sees Leon's rude comments (and shouts) as a threat to his friends. They are actually very similar, though neither of them see it - or prefer not to.

Papa D: Papa D and Leon hardly know each other - only at the end of the manga do they learn of each other. Papa D first pretended to be Count D and fooled Leon until Leon spotted the minor differences. Papa D hates humans, and Leon is no exception - although Papa D does acknowledge that Leon is fairly intelligent, and that must be why Count D 'kept him in the Petshop'.

Q-chan: Leon and Q-chan don't really appear to acknowledge each other. Leon is perfectly happy ignoring any and all pets D has, and the unnatural crossbreed of a bat and a bunny doesn't catch Leon's attention. Q-chan doesn't like Leon (as he doesn't like humans, Chris being one of the few he does care for), and is often seen frowning at whatever Leon's talking about to Count D.

The Pets: Leon hates the pets, if solely for the reason that they belong to Count D. The pets feel the same, as they are protective of Count D and Count D shouldn't keep in touch with humans on a close basis, as far as the Kami are concerned.
