Papa D is kept mostly mysterious throughout the manga, until the unraveling of the plot at the final chapters. There, Papa D reveals himself as a sly person (pretending to be his son and luring Leon with him with the intention of teaching him a lesson, if not killing him) who will stop at nothing to get his revenge on the human race.

For unknown reasons, Grandfather (Papa D's father), didn't trust him to raise Count D properly. This is most likely because Papa D has a different approach to reach his vengeance, and has developed a virus to kill humanity. According to Vesca, who went to university with Papa D, the man had some pretty deluded ideas about the human race.

Aside from his determination to punish the humans for what they did to the Kami and other species, Papa D can also act rather goofily, going starry-eyed when Leon calls him 'Count D's old man'. He jokes to his son and other people, but with the intent to further confuse or even hurt people by showing them that he doesn't care about them and he's not interested in their suffering.

Papa D went, together with detective Vesca Howell, to S.U.N.Y. Albany 22 years before the end of the manga. Vesca was a medical student, whereas Papa D pretended to be an exchange student from Hong Kong. He most likely did this to get the necessary data and equipment so he could work on the airborne virus he was producing to wipe out the human race.

It is unknown when Papa D produced Count D, but he does care about D, sending him Christmas cards and even a sister so that Count D's 'incompleteness' could be healed by sacrifice of her. Papa D's father didn't trust him with raising Count D, though, and took Count D from him, so he could work on his virus alone.

At the end of the manga, Papa D is killed by Leon before releasing his virus, and is reborn (as he choosed) as a human.

Count D:Count D and his father don't really have a relationship. Technically, they -are- clones, but their personalities are quite different (this is explained by Papa D by the difference in their environments and time). Papa D seems very teasing to Count D, calling him to ask him about how things are going. Count D seems reluctant to talk to his father, and prefers to keep distant from him as Count D was raised by his grandfather.

Q-chan:The relationship between Papa D and his father remains mysterious. Papa D seemed to go against Grandfather's wishes and gained his own perspective on humanity, while Grandfather isn't quite so rigorous in his beliefs. He still cares for his son, though, but did not trust him with raising his grandson and thus raised D himself.

Leon Orcot:Papa D and Leon hardly know each other - only at the end of the manga do they learn of each other. Papa D first pretended to be Count D and fooled Leon until Leon spotted the minor differences. Papa D hates humans, and Leon is no exception - although Papa D does acknowledge that Leon is fairly intelligent, and that must be why Count D 'kept him in the Petshop'.
