Q - c h a n

Q-chan, the flying bunny of the petshop. He is the small animal always perched on Count D's shoulder or hand, and is quite temperamental for his size. He is often seen complaining at Leon for his rudeness, or hovering around Count D protectively.

Hair: Black.
Occupation: Previous Petshop runner, now watches his grandson take it over.
Likes: His family, animals, sweets, Chris Orcot.
Dislikes: (most) humans, dangers to the people he loves.
Appearance: As Q-chan, he looks like a crossbreed between a brown-furred fat bunny with the wings of a bat. He also has horns and flipper-feet, and a devil's tail. In his 'real' form, he wears a dark cloak around his face, but looks similar to Count D and Papa D, as they are semi-clones. He also has the pale skin and lipstick the two other also have.

Q-chan's personality is quite a feisty one. Though he cannot speak, he is very expressionate and lets his opinion be known by tugs and screeches. Q-chan is very 'motherly' over Count D and Chris, trying to keep danger away by glaring angrily.

Grandfather D's personality is quite different from Q-chan's. So far, it has not been established whether Grandfather D really is the same person when he is in Q-chan's shape (although it is subtly hinted that it is not so, as Grandfather D says, when he transforms back: "Existing in a body that small does require a bit of sacrifice"). On the one hand, Q-chan and what little the manga shows us of Grandfather D seem to differ quite a bit, with Q-chan being energetic and opinionated and quick to screeching, whereas Grandfather D seems very calm and collected, possibly more than even Papa D and Count D. On the other hand, both Count D and Papa D have these sides to them as well, appearing all calm and collected while with one comment (from their respective police officers XD), they can turn hypersensitive and pissed off in a heartbeat.

S t o r y

Not much is known about Grandfather D's past. The only thing expressed in the manga is that Count D had heard that his grandfather was out of state for some business with pets, and he has to mend the store for him. In reality, however, Grandfather D has transformed himself into Q-chan to keep an eye on D, as it's his first time handling the petshop on his own, and he wants to look out for him.

When Count D was born, Grandfather D didn't trust Papa D enough to raise Count D, and had taken it onto himself to teach Count D about the ode of the Kami, and their history.

Count D: Count D hardly seems to have an opinion of Q-chan. Q-chan is very protective of the Count and is easily angered by the crude Leon. Count D, on the other hand, simply regards Q-chan as one of the pets. At the end of the manga, when it is revealed that Q-chan is really a shape D's grandfather took on to keep an eye out on his grandson's development. It is hard to say exactly what the relationship between these two are, but Count D seems to trust his grandfather's judgement, and is closer to him than he is to his father.

Leon Orcot: Leon and Q-chan don't really appear to acknowledge each other. Leon is perfectly happy ignoring any and all pets D has, and the unnatural crossbreed of a bat and a bunny doesn't catch Leon's attention. Q-chan doesn't like Leon (as he doesn't like humans, Chris being one of the few he does care for), and is often seen frowning at whatever Leon's talking about to Count D.

Chris Orcot: Chris and Q-chan are the best of friends, and always hang around each other. Chris doesn't see any of the animals in their animal shape, but only Q-chan remains animal-esque in his eyes. Q-chan is almost parental towards Chris at times, trying to stop the boy from following a foolish plan (such as visiting a room with wild lions o_o).

Toutetsu: Tet-chan and Q-chan hang around each other because they both care a lot about Chris, and wish to protect him. Each in their own way, of course; Toutetsu wants Chris to get stronger and stop crying so often, while Q-chan wants to protect him from these kind of situations.

Papa D: The relationship between Papa D and his father remains mysterious. Papa D seemed to go against Grandfather's wishes and gained his own perspective on humanity, while Grandfather isn't quite so rigorous in his beliefs. He still cares for his son, though, but did not trust him with raising his grandson and thus raised D himself.
